A Word From the Pastor
"The Ice!  The Snow!  The Blessing!
"
November 15, 2009

Dear Friends,

A week ago the trees were magnificent with their red, yellow, and orange foliage. Today, wherever I look, there seems to be nothing left but bare branches waving in the wind. The days are getting shorter as the nights are becoming longer. And while the past few weeks have seen temperatures well above normal, we know it is only a matter of time before the cold returns and with it the possibility of inclement weather.

This is the time of year that many people have learned to dread. And for good reason, too! For those with mobility issues or health problems, the thought of being shut in for days or perhaps weeks on end is less than appealing. Young mothers also become isolated when snow, ice, and the threat of flu makes venturing out with babies and infants impractical or dangerous. And even those who enjoy the snow find themselves growing weary of shoveling, scraping, and chipping!

Yet, despite all of the drawbacks and downfalls of the approaching winter, there are gifts and blessings awaiting those who are willing to claim them. Here at Lowman the church is literally bursting with excitement. Plans are being made for the annual turkey dinner and Cookie Café. Children are practicing for the upcoming Christmas musical. Members of the youth group are looking forward to their new mission project at Ronald McDonald House. The Ministry Team is discussing ways to
revitalize our worship and reach out into the community with the great good news of Jesus Christ.

Over the past several years, there have been some who said we were dying. Could it be that God was simply using that dormant time to nourish our souls and revitalize our spirits? In the coming months, it is my prayer that we will continue to listen for God, follow Christ and strengthen ourselves through the power of the Holy Spirit. For just as the seeds for next spring are already taking root in the ground, so new life is being formed in our midst.

Believe it! Live it! And God will make it so!

See You in Church,
Pastor Kathleen
