A Word From the Pastor
"Staying Connected
"
June 15, 2010

Dear Friends,

It has been a hectic two days. Between sick pets at home who required extensive veterinarian care and a mal-functioning server that shut down part of our computer system in the office, it seems like it has taken twice as much effort to complete any one task. As if all of that wasn't enough, I need to leave for Annual Conference in only a few hours! I would throw myself a pity party . . . if there was time.

So, given all the work that needs to be done here, why not just skip Conference? Why is it even important?

The truth of the matter is that Annual Conference is extremely important to the ministry of both the Conference and the local church. It is there that candidates for ministry are approved and ordained. Likewise, all the people who have been nominated to serve on a conference committee, taskforce, team, or work area are also approved. This is the place where the budget is voted on and the annual appointments of all active clergy are set. There are services that recognize the clergy who are retiring, those who are being ordained, and those who died in the past year. And, yes, there are reports to be received, awards to be given, and debates to occur. It is always amazing how much work United Methodists can accomplish in just three short days.

While it is difficult to turn off the computer, entrust the care of Lowman members who are in the hospital to others, and give Debbie those few last minute requests, the fact still remains that Annual Conference represents a very important part of our connectional ministry. It is what helps us to stay connected and to stay focused on reaching others with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

It is my prayer that God will be with us as we do our work in the Annual Conference and as we begin a second year in ministry together.

See You in Church,
Pastor Kathleen
