"It's The Little Things..."

We had been running errands all morning.  Around 1:00 we decided it was time to stop for lunch.  Leaving my husband in line to order our sandwiches, I went to wash my hands.  As luck would have it, this particular restroom was fully stocked with both foamy soap and automatic hand driers.  That type of soap always leaves a film and the hand driers never dry!  So, I improvised.  After rinsing my hands for an extraordinarily long time, I un-tucked my shirt and used the hem to dry off.   This time I was certain there was no way that soap could still be on my hands.

Then, halfway through our meal, I rubbed my eye.  Almost immediately it began to burn.  Despite flooding it with cold water and using eye drops every thirty minutes, it continued to burn throughout the night.  By the next morning it was dry, red, and swollen.

Now, how can such a small amount of something as common as soap create such prolonged pain and suffering?  Then again, it seems as though it is not the “big things” that cause us pain and grief.  We know how to avoid them.  It is, instead, all the “little things” – those choices we make that seem so insignificant – that tend to create the most havoc and cause the most damage in our lives and in the lives of those we love.

So the next time you are confronted with one of those “little” decisions that could be just a “little” wrong, stop and say a prayer.  Your life will be calmer and your days less stressful with Christ as your guide.
